This is because.... we have fantastic children who take pride in their achievements and are eager to learn. Burradon staff, pupils, parents, governors and local community work well together to form a strong and supportive learning community. We all want to be the best we can be! Our Curriculum Intent At Burradon Community Primary School our curriculum is designed: • To meet the needs of all of our children - successfully adapted, designed and developed for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities and the more able. • To be ambitious and allow all pupils to achieve their full potential. • To be coherently planned and sequenced linked to skills, knowledge and understanding. • To be broad and balanced for all pupils. The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum The EYFS is a vital stage in a child’s education. It is a time when children develop learning attitudes, skills, social integration and personal organisation that prepare them for their future education. It is in fact, their foundation to life. Play and practical activities are a central part of learning. Children are given opportunities for exploration, enjoyment and challenge through a range of self-initiated activities, adult led activities and structured play. The EYFS Curriculum is organised into seven areas of learning and development that must shape educational programmes. All areas of learning and development are important and interconnected. In the statutory framework, three areas are particularly important for building a foundation for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving.

These three areas are referred to as the ‘prime’ areas: • Communication and Language (C&L) • Physical Development (PD) • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) We must also support children in four ‘specific’ areas, through which the three ‘prime’ areas are strengthened and applied. The ‘specific’ areas are: • Literacy (L) • Mathematics (M) • Understanding the World (UW) • Expressive Arts and Design (EAD) Key Stages 1 and 2 At Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, the children follow the statutory programmes of study from the National Curriculum. This details the subject that are compulsory to be taught in primary schools and are split into ‘core’ and ‘foundation’ subjects. Core subjects are English, Mathematics and Science. The foundation subjects are Art and Design, Citizenship, Computing, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Music and Physical Education. Children also lean a foreign language in Key Stage 2. Alongside the core and foundation subjects, children are also required to teach Religious Education at all Key Stages. We also teach Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils.

Admissions Burradon Community Primary School has a 26 place nursery (FS1) and school admission number if 27 children per year group (FS2 to Year 6) Details of North Tyneside’s Admissions policies and procedures can be located in the Essential Guide to North Tyneside Schools document at www.northtyneside.gov.uk. Our school policies and procedures can be found on the school website at https://www.burradoncommunityprimaryschool.co.uk/admissions Nursery (FS1) Applications for our nursery (FS1) should be made directly to the school. Please contact our school office for further details and an application form (0191 6434680). For legal reasons, admission to a nursery class in school does not give priority for admission to the reception class (FS2). Please refer to the section on reception admissions for further information. Reception (FS2) At the start of the Autumn term, parents / carers need to apply for a reception class place for their FS1 child through North Tyneside Council or the council where they live. Parents / carers wishing to apply for a place in Reception at Burradon must complete the form online before the deadline. Parents / carers will receive confirmation of a place allocation direct from North Tyneside Council or the council where they live. Admissions to reception are not dealt with by the school. Visits to the school We welcome prospective parents / carers to visit our school whilst the school is in session to see the children working. This provides a good opportunity to ask questions, have a tour of the building and get a ‘feel’ for our school.

Attendance and Punctuality Safety and Wellbeing Behaviour Attendance Good attendance at school is vital if children are to achieve their full potential. We aim for all children to have at least 96% attendance. As a school we keep an accurate record of all absences. If your child is absence from school for any reason, please contact the school office on the first day of absence through the school email, our communication APP or leave a message on the reporting absence facility on our school answering machine (0191 6434680) Holidays within term time As a school, we do not authorise leave of absence for children to go on holiday during term time. This is in line with government expectations. Term time holidays have a negative impact on the attendance and education of children. Punctuality Gates are open from 8:40am with school starting promptly at 8:50am. Gates and doors are locked at 9am. Any child arriving after 9ammust enter the school via the main school office where they will be recorded in the register as late and a reason for the late attendance also recorded. Our school recognises statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare and wellbeing of all of our children. We are an Operation Encompass school. We endeavour to provide a happy, safe and welcoming environment in which every individual is respected and valued. We strongly believe that safeguarding is everybody’s business. We have clear procedures in place which are followed by each member of staff to ensure that children receive effective support and protection. High standards of behaviour in school are essential to enable children and young people to learn in a calm, safe environment that brings out the best in them. Children are encouraged to behave well through following our visions and values. We are a Thrive School and use Thrive strategies to support children with their emotional and social development.
